The Why: Our story

At Phenomena, we believe that virtual reality (VR) is the future of gaming and entertainment, and we're on a mission to create a new sport for the new generation of gamers. It all began back in 2019, when I was running an arcade with my partners. The problem was that most VR experiences followed the same pattern: room-scale VR powered by bulky technology and limited freedom of movement due to cables that break all the time. Story-driven experiences are great, but once you've played all the titles one time, there's no reason to come back. Keeping customers happy and finding new ways to excite them is time-consuming and expensive.

That's when we decided to develop our own game, Versus. The first free-roam VR laser tag. What made Versus different was its modular, free-roam VR gaming playground where players compete in engaging multiplayer games. The large play area combined with standalone, cable-free VR headsets allows players to move around in virtual environments freely, making the game fun and immersive. Players were thrilled with Versus, and we knew we were onto something big.

The What: VR eSport Arena

Building on the success of Versus, we've turned that technology into a family entertainment attraction operators can offer. At IAAPA 2021 in Orlando, we unveiled the VR eSport Arena, a turnkey VR attraction for FECs. Our eSports-ready games borrow the successful online gaming core mechanics and focus on skill mastery, competition, and movement. Imagine Fortnite or League of Legends in real-life. This new form of entertainment appeals to a new generation of gamers and creates communities of recurring players.
